Our Recreation Campus features amenities such as a municipal pool, ice arena, turf fields, basketball courts, roller hockey rink, fishing pier, and a boat launch. Lifeguard Memorial Swim

The City of Long Beach Department of Parks and Recreation in cooperation with the Beach Patrol will host the 13th Annual Lifeguard Memorial One-Mile Swim at 9:00am on Riverside Blvd beach on Sunday, August 16, 2026. The swim is in honor of all the deceased men and women who have served on the beach patrol. All swimmers over the age of 14 who can swim one mile in 55 minutes or less, are invited to participate.

Michael Kiefer Swim-Paddle-Run

Registration is now open for the Michael Kiefer Swim-Paddle-Run.  The event takes place Sunday, July 26, 2026 on Riverside Blvd beach.
 
Kiefer was a New York City Firefighter who heroically gave his life on September 11th. He was also a Long Beach Lifeguard who loved life and the ocean. This event is held in his memory and is meant to be a challenging workout to honor Michael’s dedication and perseverance.

Arts and Crafts Boardwalk Festival This Weekend

The City of Long Beach Arts & Crafts Boardwalk Festival will return this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, July 11 & 12, 2024 from 10am - 6pm.
 
The July Arts and Crafts Festival on the boardwalk has been a tradition for almost forty years. 200 vendors will line our beautiful boardwalk along the shore of our barrier island to show and sell their creative works and merchandise. A number of local organizations and businesses will also join us. Thousands of residents and visitors browse and shop for unique gifts and treasures. In addition, shoppers can enjoy a bounty of traditional fair food from our food vendors. There is truly something for everyone!

Beach Biathlon Registration Underway

Join us for the City of Long Beach's 46th Annual Beach Biathlon on Saturday, July 18, 2026. This year's event honors Austin Gibbons, a life-long Long Beach resident and avid surfer and surf instructor who shared his passion with all, including those with special needs. Austin was a regular at the Beach Biathlon, and this year, we're racing in his memory—“This one's for Austin!”

The race consist of a 3-mile boardwalk run and a 300 yard ocean swim with a land finish. There are also distances for teens and children, running on the shore and ocean swim. Registration opens at 7:45am on Riverside Boulevard beach.  Race times: 8:30am for children and teens, and 9:00am for adults.  Click for more details and click here to register online register.

Independence Day Closures

In observance of Independence Day, City Hall, the Magnolia Center, the Recreation Center, and the Ice Arena will be closed Friday, July 3. LB Buses will run on a holiday schedule. There will be no City camp programs. There will be regular residential and commercial sanitation pickup. Alternate side of the street parking will be suspended. On Saturday, July 4 the Rec Center and Ice Arena will be closed.

Free Summer Concerts on the Beach Begin July 2

This year’s Free Summer Concert Series line-up, now features two concerts a week and a rotating location schedule to make it even more accessible and enjoyable for everyone! Concerts begin on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Join us on various nights at 7:00pm at some of our favorite spots around town, including the beautiful beaches at Grand Boulevard, Edwards Boulevard, Lincoln Boulevard, and the bustling Kennedy Plaza.
So grab your beach chair and come enjoy the music. Check out the schedule and mark your calendars. We can't wait to see you there!
