The 25th Annual Long Beach Polar Bear Splash will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, rain, snow or shine.  Join the Long Beach Polar Bears and thousands of others as they take the plunge to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. The event takes place on Laurelton Boulevard and the beach and boardwalk. T-shirt sales begin at 10:00am. Registration begins at 12:00pm.  Splash at 1:30PM. Those taking the plunge can visit www.longbeachpolarbears.org  (waivers must be signed in order to take the plunge.)  To make a donation, sponsor a Polar Bear or join a Polar Bear Team click here.
 

The  Annual Super Bowl Splash is held in honor and loving memory of young Paulie Bradley, who passed away at the age of 4 before being able to receive his wish. Through their annual, community-driven Super Bowl Splash, the Long Beach Polar Bears have helped to make hundreds of heartfelt wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions come true. They have raised over $9 million since the first jump in 2000.

What is this all about?

How do I get there?

This is one of the busiest traffic days of the year in Long Beach and parking is very difficult. If you live in Long Beach, it is recommended that you walk or take your bicycle or take the shuttle bus.    If you are coming from out of town, it is recommended that you car pool or take public transportation.  There are trains arriving in Long Beach at 10:42 a.m., 11:42 a.m., and 12:42 p.m. and trains leaving Long Beach at 1:23 p.m., 2:23.p.m, 3:23 p.m., and 23 minutes after every hour throughout the day. The beach is about a half mile walk from the Long Island Rail Road Station or shuttle busses will be running continuously from the station.

Tips For Participants

  • Do NOT dive, flip or belly flop into the water. This is a safety precaution for all participants that is strictly enforced by the Long Beach Patrol
  • Try not to run out of the water. The beach can be slippery. Have someone holding a towel for you and take notice of what section you are in.
  • Drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited and enforced by the LBPD. intoxicated people will not be permitted to patriciate and removed from the event.
  • Bring a towel, warm clothes and socks or comfy shoes to wear after you exit the water that are easy to put on. 
  • Leave valuables at home or with a friend. Make-A-Wish, the Polar Bears and the City of Long Beach are not responsible for items that are lost or stolen.
  • Carpool or take the shuttle. Parking is limited, so help us out by coming as a group.

Where can I enter the Beach?

The following entrances to the beach are closest to the Bandwagon where the Polar Bears will be speaking.  

1. Laurelton Boulevard ramp.  

2. Lafayette Boulevard ramp. 

3. Magnolia Boulevard ramp.  

Where Can I Get Polar Bear Gear?

Get your gear BEFORE you get in the water!!

Are there Restroom Facilities?

There are restrooms located on Laurelton Boulevard and National Boulevard on the boardwalk. There are also porta potties located by the street entrances at Lafayette, Laurelton and Magnolia Boulevards.

Are there Shuttle Buses?

The City of Long Beach will provide free shuttle buses to and from the event beginning at 10:45AM and running until 2:30PM. Leave your cars at home and hop on a shuttle bus!  Look for the Polar Bear sign displayed in the shuttle bus window.  Routes are listed below:

FROM EAST END:  Begins at LIRR to Park Avenue East to Maple Boulevard to Broadway to Laurelton Boulevard, back to LIRR

FROM WEST END: Begins on Ohio Avenue & Beech Street along Beech to Grand Blvd. to Broadway. Continues along Broadway to Laurelton Boulevard, back to Ohio Avenue 

Will I get a ticket if I am illegally parked?

Yes, please do not block a driveway, fire hydrant, crosswalk or park on private property or in a business parking lot for the purpose of going to the beach.  Cars may be tickets and or towed. Please plan accordingly and give yourself enough time to find a legal parking spot. Parking is available at the LIRR station and the beach is a short walk from there. Consider using the shuttle buses.
