Edwards Blvd Complete Streets Improvements

The City is pleased to announce that the Edwards Boulevard Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin this month. This project, which had tremendous community input, will give Edwards Boulevard a “Complete Streets” makeover – making it safe, more resilient and more attractive for all users including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

The project which extends from the south side of Park Avenue all the way to the boardwalk, will include the replacement of curbs, sidewalks, sidewalk ramps, driveway aprons, concrete gutters, and will increase resilience with the installation of a complete subsurface storm sewer drainage system to mitigate flooding.  The roadway will be redone as well; a new asphalt composite surface will be applied.

Traffic calming measures will be implemented at each intersection to reduce speed and increase safety for pedestrians. Bike lanes will also be incorporated. Upon completion, topsoil and sod will be applied in pervious areas of the project. The City will be installing additional landscaping, shrubs, trees, etc., in the Spring of 2021.

The total cost of the project is approximately two million dollars.  The City’s Department of Economic Development & Planning acquired a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant through the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to fund 50% of the project.

The mobilization of equipment will begin the week of October 12, 2020 and the construction on October 19, 2020. It is anticipated that the project will last one hundred and fifty (150) days, weather dependent.  The City will be working closely with the contractor, Allen Industries, Inc., to insure as little disruption to our residents as possible. There may be periodic closures during working hours. Residents will be notified in advance of any non-emergency closures.

We look forward to the commencement of this exciting project and thank you for your patience during this process.
