Family Emergency Plan

  • Choose a location away from the path of the storm or an official shelter to stay in the case of an evacuation. Keep emergency phone numbers programmed into your cell phone and keep a back up copy with you in a waterproof sheet.
  • Ensure safety features in your house, such as smoke alarms, are functioning properly. 
  • Have your family know how and when to turn off water, gas, and electricity in your home.
  • Teach children how and when to call 911.
  • Keep enough supplies, especially food and water, in your home for at least three days. 
  • Assemble an emergency supplies kit and store in easy-to-carry containers .
  • Keep copies of important documents in waterproof containers. 
  • Keep a smaller emergency supplies kit in your car.
