Earth Day
When:Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970 when 20 million people across America took action to protect our environment. Since then, Earth Day and Earth Month have become an international campaign to save our earth. For more information about Earth Day, log onto www.earthday.net.
The City is pleased to offer several free activities for residents throughout Earth Month. A Community Recycling Day will be held on April 26th. This is an opportunity to recycle your unwanted electronics as well as to confidentially shred and recycle any papers you have laying around your house. Family Fun activities will take place in Kennedy Plaza from 10am to 1pm. In addition, the Long Beach Police Department is partnering with Long Beach Aware to hold the Prescription Takeback Program, where you can safely dispose of any old, unwanted or expired medications.
On Sunday, April 27th, will be the annual Stop Throwing Out Pollutants (STOP) program. This is your chance to properly dispose of old paint cans, car batteries, spray cans and other hazardous household items.
In May, the City will conduct the semi-annual Hydrant Flushing program beginning, May 1st through 15th. This is done to remove sediments from our water to ensure the cleanest water possible.
