City of Long Beach Celebrates Earth Day with Free Shredding and Electronics Recycling Event plus Family Fun Activities

In celebration of Earth Day, the City of Long Beach is excited to announce a special Shredding and Electronics Recycling Day on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This environmentally conscious event will take place in front of City Hall at 1 West Chester Street, providing residents with a convenient way to responsibly dispose of sensitive documents and electronic waste.

Residents are encouraged to participate by lining up via Centre Street for both shredding and e-cycling services. Please note that the event is exclusively for Long Beach residents, and proof of residency will be required. (see below for recycling info).

In addition to recycling efforts, the day will be filled with family-friendly activities and live music in Kennedy Plaza from 10am - 1pm. The Environmental Advisory Board will offer valuable information on sustainability, while the Long Beach Arts Council will host arts and crafts activities. Attendees can also learn about various city services available to them.

The event will also feature family activities, courtesy of Artists in Partnership and Arts in the Plaza.

Also on Saturday, The Long Beach Police Department in cooperation with Long Beach Aware will also hold a prescription drug take-back day from 10am - 12pm.

SHREDDING

Help protect yourself from identity theft!  Residents are encouraged to bring personal documents to be destroyed on a mobile shredding truck.  You may bring up to three file boxes per car of documents including old bank statements, tax returns, bills, receipts, credit card applications and outdated medical records to be safely shredded. Please be sure to remove all paperclips, staples and other bindings.  Laminated documents, hardcover books and plastic sleeves will not be accepted. Documents will be shredded on the spot.  Materials will be accepted until the shredding truck reaches capacity. Please, no commercial shredding.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING
With technology always changing, many electronic items become outdated after just a few years.  Please don’t throw electronics out in your regular garbage.  These items are all too toxic to place in the landfills.  Dispose of them properly by bringing old unwanted electronics to our e-cycling day.  Items include: Computers, Monitors, Mouse and Keyboards, Tablets, Printers, Faxes, Scanners, DVR and DVD players, Televisions, VCRs, any cable, cord, or wiring accompanying the electronic equipment.  Please note this does not entail destroying data on devices.
