 What COVID-19 Guidelines Are In Place in the City of Long Beach?

 When Is Recycling?

Citywide Residential Recycling takes place on Wednesdays. Effective January 1, 2021 the City began Dual Recycling. This means that residents and businesses must separate recyclable glass, metal & plastic from cardboard & paper. The materials recycled will alternate weekly, so paper and cardboard will be picked up one Wednesday and the following Wednesday will be pickup for glass, metal and plastic.  When is City Hall Open?

City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm, except for Federal holidays and weather emergencies. From July 1 - September 15 the hours are 9:00am to 4:00pm. The New York State Court System located on the 2nd floor of the building is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm year round.

 Where Can I Find Information About the Beach?

The City of Long Beach has four miles of white sand beaches.  The Ocean Beach Park is open Weekend Only from Memorial Day Weekend and seven days a week beginning June 26, 2021.  Please click here for more information on going to the beach including fees, hours of operation and COVID-19 protocols..

 When Do I Put My Garbage Out?

Place all garbage & recycling receptacles curbside after 7:00 p.m. the day prior to collection and no later than 7:00 a.m. day of collection. If strong winds are expected, please secure containers. For Sanitation & Recycling inquiries or comments please click here or contact 432-3132.

 Where Can I Apply for a Marriage License?

Marriage Licenses can be obtained from the City Clerks Office, located in City Hall on the third floor. Click here for more information.

 Can I bring my dog on the beach or boardwalk?

There are no animals permitted on the beach or boardwalk, at any time.

 Can I rollerblade or skate board on the boardwalk?

For your own safety rollerblading or roller-skating is not permitted on the boardwalk.

 I am having construction work done on my house, what debris will Sanitation pickup?

Construction materials or debris cannot be placed curbside for sanitation pickup. Please make certain that any home improvement contractor you hire agrees to dispose of debris.

 Where Do I Apply for a Dog License?

Dog licenses are handled by the city clerk's office. All dogs harbored within the City of Long Beach must have a City of Long Beach Dog License. Our licenses run for the calendar year (January 1 – December 31). For more information click here.

 When Do You Declare a Snow Emergency?

A snow emergency is declared after a snowfall of more than three inches. Plowing starts on the snow emergency routes first and then go to side streets. Please click here for more information.

 Do I Need a Building Permit?

Building permits are required for new construction and most remodeling projects. Some of the most commonly obtained permits are for roofing, siding, decks, fences, pools, and sheds. Apply for these permits at the Building Department located in City Hall, on the third floor.  Click here for more information on obtaining a permit.

 How Do I Apply to Have a Block Party?

The City of Long Beach allows a total of six (6) block parties city-wide will be permitted each weekend, with no more than three (3) in the West End, two (2) in the Canal Section, and one (1) in the Presidents Streets. West End block parties must be separated by a minimum of two avenues. Applications will be considered on a first come first served basis.  When Is Irish Day?

The Irish Day Parade and Festival takes place on the first Saturday in October. Irish Day is run by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. For vendor information, please call 516-432-8214.
