Earth Day Activities Update

The City of Long Beach will be holding several Earth Day activities this weekend. Take part in one or all of our Earth-friendly events including: Composter & Rain Barrel Online Sale, Shredding, E:Cycling, S.T.O.P., and Drug Take-Back Day.
 
The family Earth Day Celebration in Kennedy Plaza has been cancelled due to the weather forecast.

The City of Long Beach will be holding an Earth Day Celebration in Kennedy Plaza on April 26 as well as several other activities. Take part in one or all of our Earth friendly events happening this April.

TUESDAY, APRIL 22:  Happy Earth Day

  • Rain Barrel and Composter Sale Opens: The City will offer residents compost bins and rain barrels at discounted rates. Composting and using a rain barrel are excellent methods for enhancing our community’s sustainability while contributing positively to the environment. Click here for more information.
SATURDAY, APRIL 26:
  • Shredding Event: Help protect yourself from identity theft!  Residents are encouraged to bring personal documents to be destroyed on a mobile shredding truck. (by Data Struction).  Event takes place from 9am to 1pm; enter via Centre Street. Visit longbeachny.gov/RecyclingDay for guidelines.
  • Electronics Recycling: Please don’t throw electronics out in your regular garbage. These items are all too toxic to place in the landfills. Dispose of them properly by bringing old unwanted electronics to our e-cycling day. (courtesy of GreenChip Recycling). Event takes place from 9am to 1pm; enter via Centre Street. Visit www.longbeachny.gov/RecyclingDay for a list of acceptable items.
  • Drug Take-Back Day: The City of Long Beach Police Department has once again partnered with the DEA and Long Beach Aware to hold a Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Turn in your expired/unwanted prescription drugs in a safe manner. The event will take place from 10:00am to 12:00pm in front of Long Beach City Hall. Visit longbeachny.gov/drugtakeback
  • Earth Day Event:  Join the City of Long Beach Department of Public Works, Long Beach Arts Council,  Long Beach Environmental Board along with the Long Beach Clean-Up, Artists in Partnership and Arts in the Plaza at a family friendly Earth Day Celebration.  The event takes place in Kennedy Plaza from 10am - 1pm.  Cancelled due to weather forecast.

SUNDAY, APRIL 27:

  • S.T.O.P. Household Hazardous Materials Collection: Dispose of common household hazardous materials - such as batteries, light bulbs, and paint - by bringing them to the City Hall Parking Lot between the hours of 8am-3pm. Enter via Centre Street.  Visit www.longbeachny.gov/STOP for a list of acceptable materials.
