Surfrider's Ocean Friendly Restaurants

The City of Long Beach is proud to recognize the following Long Beach businesses who have been designated as Ocean Friendly Restaurants by the Surfrider Foundation.

Blacksmith's Breads - 870 W Beech Street
Gentle Brew Coffee - 151 E Park Ave
Lost At Sea - 951 West Beech Street
Five Ocean - 5 New York Avenue

We are proud of these local restaurants who have made the commitment to reduce their plastic footprint! Their decision keeps Long Beach beautiful by preventing plastic trash from ending up in our ocean, our bay, and our streets!

Ocean Friendly Restaurants is a voluntary program through the Surfrider Foundation that highlights businesses that reduce their plastic footprint. Plastic pollution is suffocating our ocean and the many animals that call it home. Much of this plastic waste comes from restaurants and retails stores that offer plastic utensils, bags, cups, straws, etc. – many of these items are used for just 10 minutes but remain in the environment indefinitely after they are thrown away.

To become a Surfrider Ocean Friendly Restaurant, a business must complete a list of action items:

1) no Styrofoam products;

2) no plastic bags for takeout or to-go orders;

3) offer reusable tableware and utensils for on-site dining, and disposable utensils for takeout food are provided only upon request

4) straws are available only upon customer request; and

5) follow proper recycling practices.
